Miniature: A Slow, Quiet, and Elegant Interior Design

Bringing Nature into the Confines of a Home

The concept behind Miniature is to condense the microcosm of the universe into an ephemeral landscape, where everything is connected through echoes and pulses. The design aims to create a flowing field that is in tune with the natural rhythm, allowing the inhabitants to experience the beauty of nature within the confines of their home.

One of the key strengths of Miniature is its ability to thread together the inside and outside. Natural materials are carefully selected and scattered around the space, creating a sense of connection with the surrounding environment. The living room wall, adorned with the natural scenes of tree rings, echoes the view of the craggy Japanese white pines outside the French window. The tripartite space seamlessly integrates with nature through purposeful ambiguity.

The bedroom space in Miniature is designed to mimic the natural breathing of the changing seasons. The opening and enclosure of the space create a sense of movement and tranquility, allowing the inhabitants to experience the ever-changing beauty of nature within their own private sanctuary.

The realization of Miniature is a result of the careful juxtaposition of different materials. The hardness of stone, metal, and reflective surfaces is balanced with the softness of wood, textiles, and greenery. This creates a meditative space that merges strength and softness, allowing for a harmonious and peaceful domestic living experience.

Miniature is a testament to the designers' creative and technical skills. The design successfully merges the cunning, balmy, fashion, and natural elements, showcasing a pragmatic and aesthetic approach. The result is a design that not only enhances the quality of life but also brings the beauty of nature into the everyday lives of its inhabitants.

Miniature was completed in May 2018 in Tainan City, Taiwan. The project spans an area of 193 square meters, providing ample space for the inhabitants to immerse themselves in the serenity of nature. The design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category.
